Sporting an updated interface with big buttons for making it easier to punch in routes when wearing gloves, there’s just two buttons on the unit: Navigate To and Browse Map.

In the UK, Palm sales have been disastrous, with their Pre webOS device failing to gain the traction it deserved – something not helped by the company’s frustrating inability to communicate.

The rumours about Palm being bought up have been circulating for months, with a succession of potential suitors mooted, but HP have now announced that they have entered into a “definitive agreement” to buy the smartphone maker.
The deal will see HP snapping up the makers of the Palm Pre and Pixi handsets – and the superb webOS operating system – at a price of $5.70 per share of Palm common stock in cash, adding up to an enterprise value of approximately $1.2 billion.

According to the techie bods at mobile ad network AdMob, Android OS traffic overtook iPhone traffic in the U.S. in March this year for the first time ever.
Their report shows Android traffic in the U.S. surging upwards to bag a 46 percent of operating system share- a sizeable leap over the iPhone, which only managed 39 percent for the iPhone operating system.

Man, those cats at Blackberry are laying down a heavy urban vibe, with their new all-dancing video showing that the company is no longer all about corporate suits, swivelling chairs, offices and appointments.
To prove that their new OS is funkier than an iPhone in a catsuit and rollerblades, Blackberry’s new promo video grooves along to an autotune-powered ‘Boom Boom Pow’ soundtrack from the Black Eyed Peas.

Nokia has officially announced its new N8 smartphone, with the handset packing in a top of the line feature set.
The camera is a whopping 12 megapixel camera affair, with Carl Zeiss optics and a Xenon flash, while the screen is served up in the shape of a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen.

Spotify have declared themselves “excited” as they announce what they’re describing as “a major evolution” in their innovative music streaming service.
From today, the company are rolling out Spotify version 0.4.3, which packs in their largest feature upgrade since launching in late 2008.

Audio dons Sennheiser and sporty goods purveyors Adidas present have teamed up to create a range of tough headphones for folks who regularly like to shake a leg and get all damp and moist as a result.
Their rugged “sport-proof ” designs have apparently been tested by Adidas athletes and are both washable and sweat-proof – so you can rinse off the headphones after a ‘session’.

We can’t actually remember the last time we used a floppy disk, and for most users these little squares of plastic are but a distant memory, but it turns out Sony hasn’t stopped making and selling them. Yet.
Sony created the world’s first 3.5-inch floppy disc back in 1981 and for decades, PCs creaked and made strange noises as computers battled to access the 720K (double-density) or 1.44MB (high-density) data onboard.

With the beastly, clunky mess of the Windows Mobile operating system sending frustrated punters fleeing to more user friendly platforms for years, Microsoft has some considerable ground to catch up with in the mobile arena.
We’d more or less written them off until we saw the press releases for their new Windows Phone 7 operating system, an exciting OS rewritten from the ground up for the next generation of smartphones.
