Apple iBooks gets updated to 1.1.1

Apple’s iBooks is a slick app for for downloading and viewing books on your iPhone, with books selected from a virtual bookshelf and browsable with a swipe or a tap.

It’s long been one of our favourite iPhone apps, so we’re pleased to see it getting a bit of TLC from Apple and emerging with a shiny new v1.1.1 label.

What’s new

The latest update adds the ability to double-tap an image within a book to view it in greater detail, and in-book audio and video support has been added.

AppleĀ  claim that there’s ‘substantial performance improvements’ when reading PDFs, and there’s now the ability to look-up definitions to English words inside books without a specified language.

Some bug squashing has gone on too, with an issue that caused some book downloads to not complete properly fixed, as well as some stability and performance improvements.
