HTC Desire to get Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in Q2

The good news for owners of HTC Desire handsets in the UK  is that they’re also in line to grab a piece of the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS action, along with owners of newer devices like the HTC Desire Z, Desire and Incredible S.

HTC have confirmed that the Desire handsets will be able to enjoy another major upgrade, with the phones originally launching with Android 2.1 and being upgraded to Froyo 2.2 afterwards.

The announcement was short and to the point:

We are excited to announce that the Desire HD, Desire Z, Desire and Incredible S will receive the Gingerbread update in Q2.

Of course, users with branded network handsets may expect the usual delay for the OS to filter down to their phones, but it’s good to see HTC continue to offer extended OS upgrade support to such a venerable device*.

(*by the standard of many other manufacturers, that is)
