Chinese tech giants Huawei have announced the November release of their new Ascend G7 mid-range Android 4.4 smartphone, and it’s looking like a decent enough offering.

The Ascend G7 comes with features a 5.5-inch screen supporting HD resolution (that’s a slightly disappointing 1280 x 720 pixels) and enhanced 4G LTE Cat4 connectivity, with a 13MP rear camera.

Utilising nano moulding technology (whatever that is) to create the aluminium unibody design, the G7 measures up at 7.6mm thick and weighs in at  165g.

Lurking inside can be found a snappy Qualcomm quad-core 1.2GHz processor and a decent sized 3000 mAh Li-Polymer battery.

The phone comes with 16GB of in-built storage, which can be expanded by up to 64GB with a microSD card.

Camera wise, the 13MP rear snapper has a 28mm wide-angle f2 lens and Sony back-illuminated sensor with the 5MP front camera having an 88-degree wide-angle lens.

An early review on Wired seemed suitably impressed:

The Ascend G7 is only a minuscule step down from Huawei’s flagship Ascend P7 that was unveiled in June, and we’re actually more impressed with the newer phone’s design. It’s really pretty good for a mid-range smartphone. It should go on sale around November time, and while no prices have been officially announced, you can expect to be able to pick it up SIM-free for around £250 — a decent price for a phone we’re impressed with so far.

  1. As ever, these things are meaningless without a price tag. ‘mid range’ could mean anything from £100 to £300!
