We’re have to say we’re not exactly ‘on message’ with the idea of 3D on a phone, but LG are enthusiastically pushing ahead with the idea, announcing their new LG Optimus 3D Cube (Max in Europe) handset.
The follow-up to the Optimus 3D, the Optimus 3D Max measures up at a lithe 9.6mm thick, and packs a faster 1.2GHz dual-core CPU predecessor.
It’s a world first
LG are trumpeting the device as the world’s first to handle 3D photo and video editing on its glasses-free display, with images and movies being recorded on the twin 5MP cameras mounted on the back
Inside can be found 8GB Internal Storage and 1GB Internal Memory and a rather modest sounding 1,520 mAh battery, plus HSPA+ 21Mbps, HDMI connection 2D/3D TV/monitor up to 1080p via MHL, DNLA for wireless connection with TV/PC (3D video also supported).
There’s a 4.3-inch 3D WVGA Display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2, with built-in NFC and support for the groovy LG Tag+ stickers that change the phone’s settings with just a swipe.
Heading to Europe
The Optimus 3D Max is set to first launch in Korea in March and then be gradually rolled out in other markets starting in Europe.
Initially shipping with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, LG have promised that an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will follow shortly after the launch.
