Apologies for the low quality of these images, but we hope you’ll find them useful as a quick size comparison between the new Olympus OM-D E-M5 Micro Four Thirds camera and our long serving Lumix LX5 compact and Nikon D300 SLR cameras.

All the reviews thus far have remarked how surprisingly small the Olympus is and its diminutive stature really becomes apparent when it’s compared to the hulking beast that is our Nikon D300.

The D300 weighs around three times as much, although the Olympus still feels reassuringly heavy – unlike some of the recent batch of retro styled cameras from Fujifilm which feel unnaturally light.

Although the Olympus is clearly a fair bit bigger than the Lumix LX5, replacing the stock 14mm-50mm lens with something like the excellent Lumix 14mm 2.5 pancake lens is going to make the camera considerably more portable – small enough for us to take places where we’d traditionally pack a LX5.

The battery is still charging up on the OM-D so we’ve no test images yet, but we hope to put the camera through its paces in the week. Check back soon!
