Samsung shuffles out Wave 3, Wave M and Wave Y Bada OS smartphones

Samsung has announced a trio of new smartphones running their own Bada 2.0 operating system, imaginatively called the Samsung Wave 3, Wave M and Wave Y.

All three handsets come with Samsung TouchWiz runing on top of Bada 2.0, and they’ll also have access to Samsung’s Blackberry-esque ChatON messaging service.

Samsung Wave 3

The bad boy of the Bada three is the Wave 3, which rocks into town with a beefy 1.4GHz processor, 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED display,  HSDPA 14.4 connectivity, 3GB of onboard storage (expandable with microSD), Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, an accelerometer, a digital compass and a proximity sensor.

There’s also a 5-megapixel camera with AF and an LED flash, plus a VGA camera for video calling, plus optional NFC connectivity.

Next in line is the Wave M, which slows the processor down to a more modest 832MHz number and packs a smaller 3.65-inch 320×480 (HVGA) TFT LCD screen.

There’s HSDPA 7.2 connectivity,  onboard plus a 5-megapixel camera on the back and a  front mounted VGA one for video, with NFC connectivity an optional extra.

Samsung Wave Y

The Wave Y is the one aimed at the kids, and in line with its cheaper price sees the camera downgraded to a 2-megapixel one with the front facing camera going west.

There’s been no word on pricing or availability yet, but with Samsung showing off the handsets at IFA in Berlin this week, more details will surely be heading our way sharpish.

  1. Whatever happened to Bada? I’m half tempted to buy one of these ancient smartphones on ebay just to have a play, looks like they go for £20-30 quid.
