Have you tried using a different USB socket on your computer? I had a similar problem with a USB device and swapping the socket fixed the problem.

MP3 clip is good playback BUT I can leave it plugged into the computer for hours and only get half charged.
This is very stressful and I will have to look for some other brand. Any suggestions?

This was definitely the best mp3 player I have ever had. The quality is amazing if you replace it with some cheap Sony earbuds.

My experience with one of the last version of Sansa players was not good. After about 4 weeks of light-ish use the volume button stopped working.

I could have been unlucky, of course….
