Chuffed with the success of their upmarket NEX-3 and NEX-5 interchangeable lens compact cameras, the folks at Sony have announced their latest model in the range, the NEX-C3.

Proclaimed to the world as being the “world’s smallest, lightest interchangeable lens camera with APS-C sized sensor”, the NEX-C3 comes packed with juicy snap-bagging tech in a package that weighs just 225g. That’s 6 per cent less than the NEX-3, in case you were wondering.

At the business end of the camera lurks a Exmor 16.2-megapixel sensor – capable of firing off shoot 720p video –
and Sony have packed in snazzy modes galore.

These include 3D panorama shooting, auto HDR and a fresh batch of “Picture Effect” modes, which number  the useful and the gimmicky, like Partial Colour, Retro Photo, Pop Colour, High Contrast Monochrome, Posterisation, High-key, Soft Skin and Toy Camera effects.

On the back is a generous 7.5cm LCD display hewn from TruBlack screen technology, while Sony have taken the opportunity to launch a new E-mount lens, in the shape of the SEL30M35, a 30mm F3.5 macro lens.

This little fella offers a 1:1 magnification ratio and minimum working distance of just 2.4 cm, which at 138g has made Sony insist that it’s planet’s lightest life-size macro lens.

The camera is set to retail for $599 although ne’ve heard a whisper when it comes to firm release dates. Scroll down for a spec-fest.
