After dismally failing to get Amazon slapped down for having the audacity to use the universally recognised term ‘app store’ for their Android Appstore, Apple’s pugnacious lawyers have decided to pick on smaller fry, in the shape of the third-party app store GetJar.

Vast clouds of dislodged suit-dust threatened to engulf Cupertino today as Apple execs puffed out their chests and roared to the world, ” Over 15 billion apps have been downloaded from our App Store.”

When it comes to runaway tech success stories, they don’t get much bigger than Apple’s phenomenally successful mobile iOSApp Store, which has now seen a cool half a million apps approved.

As expected, Amazon has announced the launch of its new on-device and Web-based Android application hub, known as the Amazon Appstore, warmly welcomed by Apple who immediately launched a legal challenge over the name.
