
We’re still battling to find anything compelling about location-based ‘checking-in’ services like Foursquare, although we can tell that there’s something in there that has real potential.

Breaking at an unfeasibly early hour this morning is the hot news that Facebook is launching its long-rumoured location-aware, check-in product, called Places.
The new service sees Facebook partnering with Gowalla and Foursquare, with representatives from the two rival services taking the stage at a special event at Palo Alto, California at 2am UK time.

It’s proved a hit on the iPhone (mainly in the States), and now the doodz at Gowalla are hurling their popular location-based social networking game in the direction of the Android community.
Joining Google Buzz, Foursquare and all the other location based services hustlin’ and a-bustlin’ to grab the biggest slice of this growing, err, pie, Gowalla’s new beta Android-optimised site can be found at m.gowalla.com.
