
Nokia’s all singing, all dancing, top of the range N900 handset has failed to set the world alight, with research firm Gartner saying that less than 100,000 models have been sold since launching first five months ago.

In an unexpected twist, Nokia has announced a new partnership with Intel, with the two companies combining their fledging Linux-based OSs into a single package called MeeGo.
Nokia’s Maemo OS and Intel’s Moblin OS will now be merged to create a “software platform that will support multiple hardware architectures across the broadest range of device segments, including pocketable mobile computers, netbooks, tablets, mediaphones, connected TVs and in-vehicle infotainment systems.”

Nokia’s super-slick Maemo N900 tablet smartphone looks a vast improvement on their recent offerings, and the company have released a “getting started” video to show off what the phone can do.
There’s been a fair bit of hype around this phone, and with Nokia suffering their first quarterly loss in a decade – and a hefty €559 million one at that – there’s a lot resting on this fella.
