ZoomIt adds iPhone SD card reader – photographers feel the love

ZoomIt adds SD card reader to iPhoneMobile media products company ZoomIt has served up a handy SD card reader for the iPhone and iPod touch.

Used in conjunction with the ZoomIt app, the dongle connects to your iPhone’s dock connector and lets you view and load photos and music (and any other file formats supported by the handset, like PDFs) stored on a SD card.

The dongle lets you extend the storage on your iPhone and backup up your files when you’re away from home, but we’re more excited at its potential as a photo editing tool.

With this app/dongle combo, we’ll be able to take photos off our dSLR camera, edit them on our iPhone using some of the superb editing apps like Photoshop.com and then upload it to our blog or on to Facebook – with no PC needed!

Funnily enough, we used to do just this with our trusty old Palm Treo 650 several years ago – that had a built-in SD card slot on the top of the phone, and we used to regularly upload pictures of our camera for editing and uploading.

The ZoomIt isn’t exactly small or cheap – it’s set to retail for $50 – but we can see how it might be a handy thing to drop in a camera bag. It’s billed as being available this April.
