Steve Jobs takes another medical leave of absence

Apple head honcho and leading light Steve Jobs has announced that he is taking medical leave of absence again so that he can ‘focus on his health’.

The Apple boss has suffered several major heath concerns since 2004, although in the case of a Bloomberg-published obituary of August 2008, reports of his demise were greatly exaggerated.

The new spell of medical leave comes almost exactly two years after Jobs last took time out for health reasons.

Tim Cook, Apple’s chief operating officer, will now look after day-to-day operations while Jobs will remain as CEO.

Here’s his email to all Apple employees:

Team,
At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple’s day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011.

I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy.
Steve

Get well soon, Steve.
