Diablo 3 becomes the fastest-selling PC game in history

Developers Blizzard have announced that they managed to shift no less than 3.5 million copies of Diablo 3 in the first 24 hours after its release, earning it the crown of the ‘fastest selling PC game in history’.

The sales didn’t stop after the first day either, with Blizzard calculating that the first week of sales totalled a hefty 6.3 million copies, creating such a massive demand that their servers were overwhelmed by millions of user requests.

Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, expressed his chuffedness with the sales figures and apologised for the launch wobblies:

We’re definitely thrilled that so many people around the world were excited to pick up their copy of Diablo III and jump in the moment it went live.

We also regret that our preparations were not enough to ensure everyone had a seamless experience when they did so. I want to reaffirm our commitment to make sure the millions of Diablo III players out there have a great experience with the game moving forward.
