Historypin mashes up archive photos with Google Street View

An interesting new site called HistoryPin lets users ‘pin’ old images on to Google’s Street View to provide an instant ‘then and now’ view.

Old pics on new technology

Archive images are overlaid on to the current Google Street View scene, letting users see how a place has changed over the years.

The site is certainly proving a hit with users, attracting over a million hits already, with viewers encouraged to upload their own images through a simple interface.

Nearly 8000 images have beenĀ  uploaded this week alone, with some large companies like Selfridges and Marks & Spencer offering their archives to the site.

We love stuff like this, and it’s a great way to explore a city – and if you like to see a more low tech version, check out our Brixton ‘Then and Now’ photo features.
