Samsung Galaxy Android-powered 16MP camera gets UK release and pricing

Samsung have announced that their innovative, Android-powered camera, the Galaxy Camera will go on sale in the UK on the 8th November.

Android powered Samsung Galaxy Camera offers 16MP, huge zoom, remote viewing and voice control

A curious blend of smartphone and camera bitsn’bobs, the Samsung Galaxy Camera runs the latest version of the Android OS (4.1 Jelly Bean), and packs 3G/Wi-Fi (or 4G/Wi-Fi) connectivity for sharing photos online in double-quick time.

The camera part looks to be a decent offering, packing a 21x optical touch zoom lens and a 16-Megapixel 1/2.3″ BSI CMOS sensor, backed by Samsung’s ‘Smart Pro’ technology and built-in “photo wizard” editing software.

The zoom reaches a useful 23mm at the wide end,  while at the back can be found a  121.2mm HD Super Clear Touch Display.

The Galaxy camera goes on sale for a pricey £399 on November 8th or if you get to a Samsung store at 5pm the night before you can quaff some champagne and scoff some canapés as you spend your cash.

Although this isn’t a camera that’s setting our world on fire – we like lots of manual control dials, goddamit! –  we are very interested in seeing the Android OS being applied to cameras, and we think that the Galaxy Camera may prove to be something of a trail blazer.
