The Sun newspaper spoofs iPhone ads in YouTube viral ad

The Sun newspaper spoofs iPhone ads in YouTube viral adWe generally don’t associate The Sun with subtle wit, but their viral ad released as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations really is a rather good affair.

Claiming the newspaper to be ‘the original handheld device,’ the cheeky viral created by Glue London spoofs the iconic Apple iPhone ads, with a copy of The Sun being handled in much the same way as an iPhone, backed by a similar jaunty piano soundtrack and assured voice-over.

The Sun newspaper spoofs iPhone ads in YouTube viral adDescribed as the, “must have handheld accessory of 2009,” the advert bigs up the paper’s “26-inch panoramic, matte, CMYK, full colour display” and “photo real graphics,” explaining that the paper is also 100% recyclable with “no contract needed” and containing “no hidden charges.”

The advert describes the “seven in-built games complete with pen-touch interface” (that’ll be the crossword, sudoku etc) and shows how easy it is to share content with friends by passing out the various supplements that come with The Sun.

And of course, being a newspaper, customers will “never lose reception again.”

  1. I really really hate to say it but this is fantastic! Spot on satire and promotion. Won’t save Murdoch’s silly idea of erecting pay walls round his news empire though…
