HTC Desire HD goes on pre-order in the UK - from free

The eagerly anticipated HTC Desire HD can now officially be pre-ordered from Vodafone, with an expected delivery date less than ten days away.

The feature-packed HTC handset packs a mahoosive 4.3″ screen and eight megapixel camera running on Android 2.2, and Vodafone say that it can be in your hot clammy hands on the 14th October if you get your order in quick.

Yours for 35 quid a month, guv

The handset can be bagged for absolutely nothing on two year, £35 a month contracts, with the deal offering 900 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB of data per month if purchased online.

Not a bad deal, if we say so ourselves, although we’re unlikely to be persuaded to sign up to loooong 24 month deals.

If you decide you want to pick up the HTC from your local High Street, the deal goes down to 600 minutes and 500MB of data.

Here’s the current deals, as advertised on Vodafone’s website:

  1. Worth working out just how ‘free’ this phone is, and it’s fairly easy to do if you check http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/sim-only-plans/all-sim-plans

The equvilant SIM only plan to the £35 and £40 deals cost £20 and £25 respectively So you are paying 15*24= 360 quid for the phone. That’s quite a bit less than the Iphone, to be fair.

That (admittedly very stingy) 5 meg of Euro data might come in useful for some folks as well.
