Lenovo has unveiled two Android-powered 10.1″ touchscreen tablets, the ThinkPad Tablet and IdeaPad Tablet P1, with the alluring specs of the ThinkPad tablet already creating unwanted feelings of lust around the office.
ThinkPad tablet ticks the boxes
The Lenovo ThinkPad tablet sports a juicy set of specs. There’s a 1280×800, 16:10 IPS screen covered with Gorilla Glass, dual cameras, mini HDMI out, micro USB port and SIM card slot, backed by a full size SD card slot and USB 2.0 port adding considerably to its appeal.
The NvidiaTegra 2 powered machine comes with 1GB of memory and can run with WiFi enabled for 8 hours.
There’s also support for the Ntrig active pen digitiser, with a handy built in silo on the tablet for storage.
Lenovo have always been very strong in the enterprise sector, and the ThinkPad Tablet comes with beefy security and encryption options including SD card encryption, lost device disablement and anti-theft software.
There’s also McAfee pre-installed, backed by layered data security, making this one of the most secure tablets on the market.
No nonsense looks
Being aimed at business users, the ThinkPad Tablet takes its design cues from the no-nonsense ThinkPad laptop range which means you’ll either love its tough, utilitarian looks (we do) or head straight to the nearest shiny iPad.
The ThinkPad Tablet is set to start shipping in the US next month (pre-orders from August 2), with the 16GB Wi-Fi model priced at $479, or $509 with the digitiser pen.
The 32GB Wi-Fi model is priced at $589 (including digitiser pen), and although 3G models are scheduled, there’s no pricing or release dates available yet.
Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet K1
Aimed at the consumer market, the Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet K1 also runs the Android Honeycomb OS, with the 32GB version set to retail for $499.
The tablet sports a groovy curved red back and comes with a micro-HDMI port, headphone jack, screen-rotation lock and microSD card slot.
There’s two cameras on board: 2 megapixel front-facing camera and 5-megapixel rear-facing camera.
Both tablets will be available in the U.S. next month and world-wide in the third quarter.
