LG has decided to join the big screen gang with the launch of its Android 2.3-based smartphone, the Optimus Q2, which packs a slide-out, full QWERTY keyboard for heavy keyboard pounders.

Powered by a newly upgraded 1.2GHz Tegra 2 chip, the Q2 should prove to be a nippy fella, and its generous four-inch, IPS-based LCD screen serves up a very bright 700-nit output.

Here’s the usual photo of adoring hot minxes waving the product around in a not-at-all 1970s sexist manner.

There’s a 5-megapixel camera on the back and a VGA camera on the front for video chat, plus Wi-Fi Direct for faster sharing.

Despite having a handy slide out QWERTY keyboard, it’s still quite a slender creature, with LG claiming the Q2 is nearly a tenth of an inch thinner than competitors, and 0.35 ounces lighter than its predecessor.

Electronica reports that a launch is expected in Europe next weekend. Although pricing is yet to be announced, we expect that bargain hunters can probably jog on.
