Panic on the streets of Bejing as Apple store smashed

It’s pretty hard trying to get a clear story out of this at the moment, but it seems that an incident at an Apple store in Beijing, China ended up with several people in the queue sustaining injuries.

As is Apple’s usual marketing policy, it appears that folks were being made to stand in a queue for the new white iPhone 4, and were being prevented from entering the store.

A poorly translated account appeared on the Mychinaviews site explaining what happened next:

The afternoon of May 7 (Beijing time), Beijing SanLiTun Apple store, crowds queued to buy the white iPhone4 and iPad2.A 1.9m (6’3”) foreign (non-Chinese) employee came out from the store with a metal club and hit four people, including two young men and two middle age women . A glass door of the store were hit and destroyed by excited crowds. All four people are hospitalized right now and no money was paid by apple for medical purposes. Now Apple store locked down .

At the moment, other eye witness reports seem equally jumbled, but from the photos it appears that there certainly was trouble at the Beijing Apple store, and some people got hurt.

Hopefully we’ll get more on this story later.
