Unholy alliance of Steve Jobs and Rupert Murdoch spawns The Daily

With fat dollar signs in their eyes, Apple head honcho Steve Jobs and union-crushing News Corporation supremo Rupert Murdoch are set to reveal an iPad newspaper called The Daily.

Apple has snuggled up with Murdoch to provide a ‘seamless delivery experience’ for The Daily, and with News Corp reportedly hiring in 100 journalists for the new publication, it looks like Murdoch is aiming for a serious land-grab of the online newspaper space.

Murdoch is said to be willing to sink $30 million into the project and has described it as his “No. 1 most exciting project.”

The digital rag will offer original coverage of news, the arts, lifestyle, sports and opinion, although we haven’t heard if Steve Jobs has insisted on his usual moralistic control over iPad content .

January launch?

With the launch rumoured to be set for January 19th at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art,  The Daily will only be available on the iPad – there’ll be no web or print edition – with each edition costing $0.99 on a subscription basis.

We’ll be giving it a miss, thanks.
