Apple’s Cinema Display ramps up to 27″, iMac line-up gets speed boost

Apple's Cinema Display ramps up to 27

Apple have ramped up their biggest LED Cinema Display to now contain 27″ of  big screen loveliness, with the new display packing 2560 x 1440 pixels in a movie-friendly 16:9 aspect ratio.

Previously, 24″ was as big as it got down Apple way, but the new top of the range number can be yours for $999 – with the 60 per cent more screen estate setting you back an additional $100 over than the smaller model.

“With built-in MagSafe charging, iSight camera, speakers, and USB ports, the LED Cinema Display is ideal for MacBook and MacBook Pro users,” purred Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.

Ports and connectors remain unchanged from the 24″ model, although the brightness has been nudged up a bit to 375 cd/m2, while the contrast ratio remains the same, at 1000:1. Response time has had an upward tweak too, rising from 14ms in the 24″ model, to 12ms in the 27″.

The beastie weighs in at 10.7kgs, measures up at 18.84″ tall, 22.57″ wide, and 7.76″ deep and will be available come sunny September.
