If you thought Apple’s last quarter earnings of $15.7bn were obscenely high, then you’ll find Microsoft’s latest tally positively indecent, with the company announcing record-breaking fourth-quarter revenue of an eye watering $16.04 billion.
It seems that consumers and businesses have got over the sour taste left behind by the catastrophe that was the Windows Vista operating system, with its acclaimed Windows 7 follow-up quickly becoming the company’s fastest-selling operating system, selling a staggering 150 million licenses since its launch last October.
After the relentless horrors of Vista – an operating system so annoying that we came close to lobbing our PC into the canal in frustration – we’ve rather enjoyed our time with Windows 7, finding it to be stable, reliable and pleasant to use OS.
We’re sure it’s just one crazy coincidence (after all, adverts usually take a long time to produce) but there’s some astonishing similarities between Microsoft’s promo advert for their new Windows Phone 7 Series mobile operating system, and the one we saw from Palm last week.
To the accompaniment of whoops, slapping sweaty palms held aloft and champagne corks bouncing off unsuspecting exec bonces, Microsoft has revealed that its latest operating system, Windows 7, has sailed past the 90 million sales mark.
If you got your hands on Microsoft’s new operating system today, you’re probably busting a gut to get it on to your system and purge yourself of Vista’s mountain of hurt.
But hold your horses there boy! You can’t just go charging in and slamming in Windows7 – your machine will never forgive you!
