Android explodes: 450,000 Android Apps, 300 million devices, one billion app downloads per month

Google’s Android platform continues its trajectory for total global dominance, with a new Google blog post revealing details of a year-on-year growth rate of more than 250%, with no less than 850,000 new Android devices being activated each day: an astonishing total.

According to Google, the total number of Android devices around the world has now slipped past 300 million, with the app store growing at a similarly exponential rate.

At least year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), Google announced that there were more than 150,000 apps in Android Market – that number has now soared to 450,000 apps today, with over one billion app downloads every month.

Google were throwing out the facts from their king sized booth at the Mobile World Congress this week, where they’d laid out special “app pods” to show off the latest Android innovations, like Android Beam, which lets users share content like web pages, videos, directions, and apps by just touching two Android phones back to back.
