Apple Mac App Store is open for business

Apple has opened the doors on it’s long-awaited Mac App Store, with the virtual shelves full of  more than 1,000 free and paid applications.

Essentially the desktop equivalent of the iPhone AppStore , the Mac App Store serves up a categorised list of apps ready to be browsed, bought, downloaded and installed.

New and hot apps, staff favourites and top charts will be there for your browsing pleasure, with app categories to include Games, Education, Graphics & Design, Lifestyle, Productivity, Utilities and others.

Same password

Just like the iPhone store, bagging an app is a case of clicking on it, entering  your iTunes password (it’ll be the same as your iPhone one), and you’ll be able to use your new app as soon as it’s hurtled down the wire onto your Mac.

You can start rummaging through the store by downloading the latest Mac OS X update (v10.6.6) or by heading off to apple.com/mac/app-store.
