Google Reader app for Android gets updated

Some folks already swear by this app, so they’ll be no doubt more chuffed than a deeply chuffed thing to discover that Google has added some handy improvements to the free app.

Widgets ahoy!

The app now offers an unread count widget, letting users select any feed, label or person – or go the whole hog and select ‘all items’ – and then get the unread count on their home screen.

Giving the widget a prod with your digit takes you straight to that stream.

There’s also a news ticker widget that cycles through items on selected streams, with the option to go straight to the article from the headline.
