Isle of Wight festival app offers everything except guaranteed sunshine

Back in the day, the only essential gear you needed to bring to a festival was 12 ounces of Bob Marley’s finest, a vat of Old Scrote scrumpy and a ditch to sleep in, but for today’s spoilt-rotten revellers, it’s all about the hi-tech tents, apps and internet pharmaceuticals.

The Isle of Wight Festival has got in on the act, producing an interactive app for iPhone and Android that’s comprehensive enough to make the over-priced, glossy programmes a thing of the past.

Released by those crazy wild party animals at Vodafone, the app packs packs info and stage times plus the ability to set up your own personal schedule – with reminders – so you can be sure you don’t miss Tom Jones in all his larynx-troubling glory.

Stumbling around in the dark for hours on end trying to find your tent is a thing of the past too, with the app letting you mark locations on a detailed map of the festival grounds and stages.

Using this tool, you can also drop  a pin on the map and invite pals to meet up, if they’re not already off their heads off on an over-exuberant ‘natural high’ mix.

Naturally, the whole thing is social networked to the max so you can tell all your office-bound pals what a great time you’re having via Twitter and Facebook, and post up photos to show the proof.

There’s also a load of useful stuff like safety and travel info, weather forecasts and more, but all that will be a fat lot of good if your run out of battery – so be sure to take spare phone batteries (not you, iPhone users!) or pack something like the fab Veho Pebble to keep the juices flowing.

Find it in the App Store or in the Android Market.
