The news came from the company’s US Mobile Twitter account, with a subsequent tweet confirming that the new version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet will be strutting the streets with the latest incarnation of the Honeycomb OS, also known as Android 3.1.

The new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 replaces an earlier version with the same name and it looks, to be one of the few Android tablets that can muster real competition to Apple’s all conquering iPad 2.

Top notch specs

A leisurely flick through the spec sheet confirms that this is one sweet looking tablet, with the 10.1 inch Tab offering a 1280×800 pixel screen, while inside lurks a dual-core, 1 GHz CPU.

There’s a 3-megapixel back camera on the back and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chats – both shooting 1080p video – all packed into a very slim package that weighs 1.3 pounds and measures up at just .34” thick.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi has been priced at $499 for the 16 GB version and $599 for 32 gigs – we expect that to convert to the usual hideous rip off exchange price for UK buyers.

But – hey! – we might be pleasantly surprised!
