Canon has announced that it will be unleashing the much-anticipated (and rather overdue) firmware update for its EOS 5D Mark II from mid-March, adding professional video capabilities to the fine dSLR.
First announced in late 2009, the new firmware version 2.0.3 enhances the EOS 5D Mark II’s video performance, offering full 1080p HD video recording at 24, 25 and 29.97fps to match PAL and NTSC broadcast standards.

Canon has taken the wraps off its latest consumer digital SLR, the EOS 550D ( Rebel T2i) which packs a hefty 18MP sensor and full HD movie recording, tucked up in Canon’s familiar camera styling.
Sporting a newly developed 18MP APS-C CMOS sensor, backed by Canon’s advanced DIGIC 4 image processor plus enhanced in-camera noise reduction for low light shooting, Canon are hoping that this camera will make a splash in the highly competitive consumer dSLR market.

We’re partial to putting together the odd panorama here at Wirefresh, but nothing we’ve done comes even close to the 26GB monster created by the bods at A.F.B. media GmbH.
Those crazy cats have created a truly mahoosive interactive panorama of Dresden, Germany, which is now available to view online.

Scoring second place in our Best High End Compact Camera 2009 awards is Canon’s heavyweight PowerShot G11 digicam.
The G11 is the current flagship of Canon’s G-series range which has established an excellent reputation amongst pro photographers and dial-twitching amateurs for producing the highest quality images in a tough package.

Coming in at third place in our Best High End Compact 2009 awards is Canon’s sleek and bijou Powershot S90 digicam.
Considerably smaller than its chunkier and more expensive brother, the Canon G11, the S90 serves up a very similar prosumer-orientated feature set, offering program AE, aperture-priority, shutter-priority and manual modes – as well as the ability to shoot RAW files for the best image quality.

Aimed at ’serious’ users, we’ve always liked Canon’s Powershot G range of cameras, with their rugged looks, no-nonsense black lines and full feature set.
The recently introduced PowerShot G11 wisely bucked the ‘megapixel wars’ dictum, and aimed for image quality rather than ever-escalating pixel counts, reducing the resolution down to 10 MPs from its predecessor’s 14.7MP.

Canon have announced their new EOS-1D Mark IV professional dSLR camera boasting a spec sheet to make pro snappers swoon.
Billed as a “a high-speed multimedia performance monster,” the Canon packs a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor, Dual DIGIC 4 Imaging Processors and 14-bit A/D data conversion, full HD recording, packed in a rugged body so tough you could probably use it to bash nails in.
