Are you getting the Orange HTC Desire Froyo update?

Orange HTC Desire Froyo update finally rolls out

According to the busy-Tweeting Conor from Orange, the long overdue Android Froyo 2.2 update has started to roll out to their HTC Desire customers.

The oft-delayed update brings sweet Android 2.2 OS goodness to the already marvellous HTC Desire phone –  and hopefully will get rid of some of the useless cack that Orange originally burdened the phone with.

Orange HTC Desire Froyo update finally rolls out

Where is it?

We’ve been bashing the Settings -> About phone -> System software  updates -> Check now menus like a dervish on crack, but there’s nothing showing for us yet.

Under pressure from impatient Tweeters, the beardy Conor commentated:

Froyo is available to everyone on a HTC Desire on Orange UK. It mightn’t always appear on your updates straight away due to the amount of traffic going through HTC’s servers.

The questions kept on coming, promoting a slightly annoyed-sounding Conor to add:

traffic on a server is traffic on a server, sorry but I can’t be more specific than that, Froyo should be with you soon

Are you Froyo’d?

So, how about you folks out there in Orange Android land?

Have you got your HTC Desire updated yet?

  1. Poo all in Belfast. I heard that you need 25mb of space on your phone to install the update, I wonder if the update shows up if you haven’t got that? i only have 15mb phone storage remaining… want to sort that with move to sd!

  2. Even the big blogs find it hard to attract user comment, but it is indeed great to see this article getting so much feedback. Keep it coming folks!

Meanwhile, I’m still waiting for my Froyo update.

  3. I’ve developed a nervous tick that sees me checking every time I pick the phone up.

The worst thing is when it takes longer than usual to tell you if it’s available or not, building your hopes up until the inevitable “your phone is up to date” message reappears.

It’s NOT UP TO DATE Orange, you bastards!

  4. From the orange website http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/519269
    says

If you are running software version number 1.15.61.10 then HTC has recently advised us you will first need to update your devices to 1.22.61.1.

HTC will be making the 1.22.61.1 update available early next week. Once you have updated to 1.22.61.1, you can then update to 2.17.61.2 via the method described above. To check to see which software version your device is running. From homescreen – Menu Key > Settings > Software information. The number you require is listed as the fifth entry and is labelled “Software number”.

There you have it NOT everyone can update their desire until NEXT WEEK sometine

  5. Hi all
Since I read about Orange releasing the Froyo update for HTC DESIRE users, I have tried many times in the past 3 days, but keep getting the same message every time. No updates found.

It makes me feel that Orange is only buying time and has not actually released the update.
We will keep trying and they will keep claiming we have to wait due to traffic.
    Regards
    Abdullah

  6. Now they tell us? At least I can go to the pub now and stop obsessively checking my phone – at least until Monday…

  7. Dont get too excited as this is not going to help. My version is 1.22.61.1 and I have not seen the update since Thursday

  8. I am already running 1.22.61.1 and I can’t get the update either. Spoke to Orange customer services this afternoon and they had me trying allsorts of weird and wonderful ideas! Firstly they got me to set the date forward one month (had to turn off wifi & gprs to do this) then told me to check for updates. Asked how I was meant to do this with no wifi connection and he seemed bemused. As soon as I turned on wifi the phone reset itself to todays date. Next he tried to get me to download it via my laptop even though I explained this was not possible. Eventually he gave up and said he would call back after speaking to someone else. Still waiting for call back. I don’t think anyone at Orange actually has a clue about what is going on.

  9. Lets face it Orange repeatedly lie through their teeth over this because either 1) they have no idea themselves 2) they don’t tell their own customer service people anything 3) they STILL can get alll their crap bloatware working with Froyo and Mr Orange says they can’t release it until it stinks just like Orange. I called Orange a last June to get a PAC code to leave – they offered me a package (with HTC Desire) that you just couldn’t refuse – then they sent me the phone and made me wait 2 months before sending me my first bill which showed no hint of the package I agreed to stay over. 1 month of arguing later and I finally get what I was promised. Now it’s the constant lies and mis-information over 2.2 to hide their dreadful customer service. ConorfromOrange? I’ve heard so much nonsense from this ‘source’ over the last few months. He’s probably some 15 year old in Droitwich. But then again a 15 y.o in Droitwich probably has more idea of what is really going on..

  10. does anyone know how to get the 1.22.61.1 download do i get it from the htc website or from the system software update on my phone?? (this is taking really loooooong now :@)

  11. I am still stuck on 1.15.61.10 so need the 1.22.61.1 update before I can even think about downloading the Froyo 2.2 update.

I have just received a ‘helpful’ message from ‘OrangerHelpers’ on Twitter stating “At this moment we have no date/time for release. As soon as we hear anything we will let you know” – great thanks Orange.

So was it Orange or HTC that didn’t release the 1.22.61.1 update to HTC Desire’s on 1.15.61.10??

Orange’s communication with their customers has been absolutely appalling.

  12. Orange say HTC will be releasing the 1.22.61.1 update for customers on 1.15.61.10.

    HTC say that’s not true!

According to HTC Support Ireland they are not going to release any updates. If your phone is Orange Branded, then only Orange will be releasing the updates.

Orange should be loyal to its customers and tell us the truth.

Out of all the people who have posted a message, who feels that they will be sticking with Orange when there contract expires!

    Not many I expect…..Orange Simply haven’t got a clue!!

  13. I phoned Orange yesterday (Tuesday) to ask when 1.22.61.1 will be available, they told me that this comes from HTC. I phoned HTC and they told me it comes from Orange. I phoned Orange and they said “sometime this week” and that I’ll get a text letting me know that I can download it. Their website says “early this week”… Basically, I don’t think they have a clue…

  14. The problem is not froyo, its the 2.1 software that some htc desire’s hold.

The htc desire’s with 1.15.61.10 will need to update to 1.22.61.10 and than to 2.2 froyo.

This has been confirmed by htc and orange and apparently they both working to make it work.

They twitted sayin, ‘early next week’ (talking about this week) but I guess it will be late this week now or early next week.

  15. And still no 2.2 for my desire, this is getting stupid now.only been with orange a couple of months and never again.

  16. I’ve written to Orange again and pointed them in the direction of this article (and the many disgruntled customers).

Not surprisingly, I haven’t heard a peep back yet. They really are quite useless.

  17. Just received this message on Twitter:

    @OrangeHelpers said:

    reply

We have an update from HTC regarding 1.22 and Froyo.

    ‘Sorry for the late response.

We will finish the FOTA testing by the end of today.

If everything is smooth, End user will get the update ROM from “1.15.61.10” to ”1.22.61.1” start from midnight.

I will keep you posted for the final testing result.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.’

So by the looks of it, all us HTC Desire users on 1.15.61.10 will get the upgrade after midnight tonight – being Orange, this will most likely be a couple of weeks.

Once we have then upgraded to 1.22.61.1, we can then upgrade to Froyo 2.2

  18. I was told today by Orange Technical Support that the 1.22.61.1 update and Froyo were pulled shortly after launch last weekend due to lock up problems and that they are reworking the releases. This would tie in with Sam’s comment… Ironically the support guy at ORANGE said he also had a HTC Desire but with T-MOBILE!!!!! He was also waiting for a working Froyo update.

What does that say about Orange when their own techies have phones with other providers?!

  19. Hey jsut got the update 🙂 i was running 1.15.61.10 its installing new now.

About time too. Orange never again.

    Happy Updating 🙂

  20. Mine’s just upgraded itself to 1.22.61.1 after a worrying long period when it restored my apps and settings.

    Bring on Froyo!

    *starts downloading….

  21. I’m running software 1.15.61.10 and it’s offering to up date Android 2.1 at 27.26MB. Is this to get it to 1.22.61.1??
