Facebook’s quest to take over the planet continues, with new figures putting its total user base at a staggering 700,000,000 users worldwide – an astonishing rise from January’s figures of 500m users.

The figures comes from Facebook stat tracker Socialbreaker, who revealed that Facebook is  running rampant in emerging markets, with Brazil the fastest growing country, expanding by 11.4% in the merry month of May, adding nearly 2 million users in the process.

Indonesia saw the second biggest growth, with 1.5 million new users signing up, followed by the Philippines with 1.3 million new users, and then Mexico and Argentina, both with 1.1 million new users.

The social networking site is still heavily focussed on the US which has no less than 149.4 million Facebookers online, with Indonesia a far distant second with 37.9 million.

The UK comes in third with a hefty 30.5m users, which adds up to nearly half the population.
