Dell Streak Android-powered tablet coming to UK in June

The UK is set to get the Dell Streak Android mini-tablet next month, with O2 being the first network  provider to get their paws on the wee fella.

The Android-powered tablet (aka the Mini 5) comes with a 5-inch capacitive 800 x 480 screen, powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor.

Memory expansion comes in the shape of a frugal 2GB onboard, backed by a microSD slot, supporting up to 32GB of storage.

Connectivity options are all present and correct, with the Streak offering 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and GPS and running on Android 2.1 (with a Froyo 2.2 update scheduled later this year).

Take that Tom Tom

With Google Maps Navigation offering GPS-powered, turn-by-turn routing onboard, we could see the Streak taking a big chunk out of Tom Tom’s market, and with the upcoming Android Flash support, this could prove a handy multi media device for around the home too.

You can also make calls on the thing too, if you don’t mind looking a bit like Dom Joly.

Snap and flash

The tablet sports two cameras – the main one being a 5MP job with dual LED flash, while there’s a VGA version on the front for video calling, if you so desire.

There’s no details on the exact release date and tariffs yet, but both O2 and The Carphone Warehouse will be offering the phone next month, with Dell making it available on their site in July.

If it’s priced right it could certainly take the sheen off the iPad for some, although the (as yet unannounced) battery life could be a crucial factor.
