There’s been growing outrage and concern from UK photographers over increasingly Draconian, illegal – and plain daft – clampdowns on their right to take photos in a public place.
Police officers, security guards and general jobsworths have been using terrorism laws to harass photographers, sparking several public protests in London.

Panasonic has flapped out the spec sheets of its new Lumix Micro Four Thirds cameras – the touchscreen DMC-G2 – and we’re rather liking the look of what we’re seeing.
The direct descendant of the trailblazing Lumix G1, the DMC-G2 comes with a 12.1MP Live MOS sensor and shoots 720p video in AVCHD lite, and can lay claim to being the first interchangeable lens system camera with a fold-out touchscreen.

Appearing on their website long enough to be snaffled by sharp-eyed speedy bloggers are a set of photos and some details of Panasonic’s upcoming Lumix G2 and G10 Micro Four Thirds cameras .
Although it’s not clear whether these are the final products or ‘work in progress’ prototypes, both cameras are said to pack a 12.1 megapixel sensor and lots of touchy-feely stuff in the shape of a touchscreen with touch shutter and touch MF Assist.

Facebook has just announced that it’s rolling out an increase in the maximum image sizes allowed for photo updates.
Promised back at the end of January, the increase brushes aside the previous image limitation of 604 pixels and elevates it to the heady heights of 720 pixels.

Canon has announced that it will be unleashing the much-anticipated (and rather overdue) firmware update for its EOS 5D Mark II from mid-March, adding professional video capabilities to the fine dSLR.
First announced in late 2009, the new firmware version 2.0.3 enhances the EOS 5D Mark II’s video performance, offering full 1080p HD video recording at 24, 25 and 29.97fps to match PAL and NTSC broadcast standards.

Google has just announced that it has opened up its big bag of money and acquired the cloud-based photo editing service, Picnik.
The website lets you crop, touch-up and add various effects to your photos from within your web browser.

Pentax is launching a limited-edition silver version of its Pentax K-7 digital SLR camera, serving up a delicious old school look sure to get traditionalists twitching towards their wallets.
The Pentax K-7 Limited Silver updates the existing K-7 body with a new silver and black finish backed by a reinforced “highly shock and scratch resistant” LCD glass cover, said to be tougher than what you’ll get on the standard K7.

As it’s a Friday, we thought we’d share some photos from our sister site, urban75.
Here’s a selection from a winter weekend at the faded seaside resorts of Broadstairs, Ramsgate and Margate, on the south east coast of England.
For the trip, we decided to leave our dSLR at home for the first time, and take along our two favourite compact cameras, the Panasonic Lumix GF-1 and Panasonic Lumix LX3.

Sat pretty in the middle of their dSLR range is Sony’s new A500, a 12.3 megapixel snapper serving up enhanced Live View, Auto HDR functionality and some nippy high-speed continuous shooting capabilities.
The Sony Alpha A500 uses the new Exmor CMOS sensor for better low-light images, serving up an improved ISO range which now covers a hefty range of 200-12800 ISO, backed by the SteadyShot anti-shake system.

To show off the HD video shooting abilities of their Pentax K-7 digital SLR cameras, Pentax commissioned two production companies to knock out a couple of entertaining short films.
Shot entirely at night in Denver, Colorado, the all-action Uncle Jack movie was created by film-maker Jamin Winans and Futuristic Films and features a mad clown, a crazed woman, magic pills, gunshots and lots of driving (sounds a bit like a night out in Brixton to us).
