Internet Explorer soars while Firefox gets a kick in the goolies

Microsoft continues to revive the fortunes of its once-ailing Internet Explorer (IE), with new figures from NetMarketShare reporting that the browser has  increased its share of the browser market in by 0.42 per cent in July to bag a total share of 60.74 per cent.

Thanks to Steve Jobs’ iron-like grip on what is allowed in Apple’s AppStore, it’s unlikely we’ll ever see a version of the massively popular Firefox browser running on an iPhone – which makes it a pain for Firefox users to sync their bookmarks.

Firefox is five years old

Launched on November 9, 2004, the web browser Firefox is now five years old.

Starting life as an experimental arm of the Mozilla project, whose hefty suite of apps included a web browser, mail client, news reader, irc client and web page editor (Mozilla Composer), Firefox looked to offer a slimmed-down alternative to the wobbly lard of Internet Explorer.
