
Palm will be strutting their stuff at the Game Developer’s Conference next week and their presentation will focus on their Plug-in Development Kit (PDK) – a set of tools designed to help developers create graphics-intensive games for Palm’s webOS.
The PDK is said to let developers rewrite mobile apps designed for other platforms in double quick-time, with iPhone apps reputedly ported over in “a matter of days,” with no degradation in performance.

The Palm webOS has been given another boost in its gaming abilities, with the release of VisualBoyAdvance – a free, webOS-based emulator for Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games.
VisualBoyAdvance (VBA) is an open source emulator available for numerous operating systems, and it’s now been successfully ported and enhanced for webOS.

In an another reminder that the iPhone is fast becoming the mobile gaming platform of the future, Rockstar publishers have released the first Grand Auto Theft title for the iPhone/iPod Touch.
Offering top down gaming, the graphics are pretty damn good, serving up a near-direct port of the Nintendo DS version, but with much better graphics.

With its latest firmware update to webOS 1.3.5, Palm included a software library called SDL (or Simple Directmedia Layer) which grants low level hardware access to developers – which is perfect for accelerated 3D graphics.
Super-spoddy webOS hacker zsoc was quick to see the potential, and swiftly put together a working port of the legendary shoot em up Doom, which runs within a card in Palm’s multi-tasking webOS.

It’s been a firm favourite in the Wirefresh offices for years, and we’ve spent untold hours waving our Wii controllers around in the air, so it comes as no surprise to find that Nintendo’s Wii gaming console is now the fastest selling console in UK history.
Independent performance and sales tracking bods, Chart Track-GfK, have rummaged through the figures and discovered that the Wii has now sold more than six million units in the UK since launching on 8 December 2006.

The BBC has teamed up with gaming giants Nintendo to launch a new and improved version of the iPlayer catch-up service for the Nintendo Wii gaming console.
Following the launch of the iPlayer for the Playstation network in September, the new version improves on the frankly rubbish original which we found so clunky that we quickly abandoned it.
The new iPlayer channel will be available to download from November 18, and the BBC are hoping that it will prove a hit among the one million Wii users in the UK.

Wii Fit Plus, the follow up to the massively popular Nintendo Wii Fit exercise game, should be stacking up on shop shelves today in plenty of time for the Christmas rush.
In addition to all the original Wii Fit features, the updated (ahem) “exertainment” game offers no less than fifteen new balance-board exercises, plus six new strength and yoga programmes to coax lardy sofa surfers into some sort of shape.
