
There’s been versions of the BBC iPlayer knocking about for iPads and Android smartphones for ages, so this dedicated iPhone version is well overdue.
The iPlayer for iPhone app is compatible with the iPod touch, iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4S handsets running iOS4.3 and above, and serves up all of the BBC’s national television channels and radio networks.

When they’re not busy fighting battalions of Russian hooligans in far-flung car parks, the Welsh will soon be enjoying their new status as the UK’s first digital TV nation.
The country’s switchover from analogue to digital began in Swansea last August, with the city becoming the first fully digital city in the country.

Humax Freesat have just served up a short video showing its users how they can grab a chunk of BBC iPlayer goodness through their Freesat equipment.
The beta update should be available to the majority of suitably equipped users in time for Christmas, with the full release rolled out to all existing freesat HDTV’s and boxes in the next few months.

The BBC has teamed up with gaming giants Nintendo to launch a new and improved version of the iPlayer catch-up service for the Nintendo Wii gaming console.
Following the launch of the iPlayer for the Playstation network in September, the new version improves on the frankly rubbish original which we found so clunky that we quickly abandoned it.
The new iPlayer channel will be available to download from November 18, and the BBC are hoping that it will prove a hit among the one million Wii users in the UK.

Last night we reported on a major outage that saw the entire BBC website – news, radio, features, sport – the whole caboodle – going down for several hours.
Some users reported a general ‘wobble’ across the internet around 1.45am, with the BBC site disappearing completely around 2am and staying offline till past 3.30am.
