A new website called PleaseRobMe.com has been created to warn users about the potential perils of using services like Foursquare, Twitter and GoogleBuzz, which let users share their location online and ‘check in’ to places.
By aggregating all those publicly announced check-ins, the site serves up a handy list of people who have left their home and checked in elsewhere, ramming home the point that such information may prove invaluable to burglars.

Clearly inspired by growing traffic to location based, social networking services like Foursquare and Gowalla, Yelp have bolted on new ‘check-in’ features to the latest version of its iPhone app.
As well as the check-in feature, user profiles can be checked out, and they’ve updated their augmented reality ‘Monocle’ viewer which now lets you see friends’ virtual check-ins onscreen.

Comedian and writer Ricky Gervais has flounced off Twitter, declaring the site “pointless” and claiming that it was “undignified” for adults to be using the service.
Gervais had been on the microblogging site for less than a month (his first tweet was on 14th Dec), and quickly amassed 13,000 followers, keen to follow his every utterance.

The popular TweetDeck free app for Apple iPhone and iPod touch users has been updated to v1.3, and introduces support for Twitter Lists and geo-tagging.
Tweetdeck lets users create groups, search Twitter, manage multiple accounts, and post tweets or share photos, videos, links and more via a customisable interface, which automatically syncs with its desktop counterpart.

Although to many people, the whitterings of a Twitterer matter not one jot, the microblogging site has certainly evolved into an influential means of expression.
INQ Mobile have come up with what they’re calling the “influence rating” of Twitter users, conjured up by measuring the number of times they’ve banged out messages, how good they were at re-tweeting other people’s messages, and the number of times their posts were subsequently re-tweeted by other people.

Aimed at hardcore users, the ludicrously named HootSuite for the iPhone offers a ton of power features for folks who simply can’t stop a-Twittering.
Unlike other iPhone Twitter apps (and Lordy, there’s no shortage of them), HootSuite for iPhone lets you view statistics and schedule your tweets in advance.

Google has announced a new search service that serves up a dynamic stream of real-time content from across the web, incorporating near-instant updates from web pages and social networking partners.
When searching on Google, you’ll soon be able to see live updates from popular sites like Facebook, Twitter, FriendFeed and MySpace, as well as freshly published headlines from news sites and blog posts.

An excitable bloke can be seen raving about the Seesmic Twitter mobile client which has just been released for the Android and BlackBerry platforms.
The interface seems straightforward enough, with four buttons giving access to Twitter timelines, replies, direct messages or profile views.
Clicking on a tweet lets you to reply, DM reply or retweet, and there’s the option to add location information when you post up your latest 140 character missive, along with a photo or video, if you so desire.
